SCRIM.TF
Create listingListingsMercsHow it works

Changelog

scrim.tf is in beta and changes often. This is what has actually shipped, newest first.

  1. Adding a merc, and badges to aim at

    Added

    • Profiles show what is still to earn: the same badges, greyed out, with what they need and how far along you are.
    • A third profile stat — how many badges you hold.

    Changed

    • Adding a merc searches scrim.tf players by name — and only scrim.tf players. Typing a word used to reach into Steam, so a search could offer a complete stranger whose vanity URL happened to match.
    • A Steam profile link or SteamID64 still adds anybody, registered here or not. That is how you add someone with no scrim.tf account.
    • scrim.tf names no longer have to be unique. Three people can be called Jack, and a search shows all of them with their Steam name, avatar and current team so you can pick the right one.
    • Ringer is gone from the wording. It is a merc, everywhere.

    Fixed

    • The Organiser badge is retired. It said the same thing as First Match for almost everybody who had one. Matchmaker, the ten-listing version, stays.
  2. Listings that have been and gone

    Changed

    • Nothing is deleted or rewritten by any of this. Open an old listing from a link or a notification and it still reads exactly as it did — it simply says that it has expired.

    Fixed

    • A listing whose scrim time has passed no longer appears on Browse, in filtered results, or on its team's profile. It was still sitting there offering itself to opponents hours after the scrim it advertised.
    • An expired listing can no longer receive a proposal, and a proposal left unanswered on one can no longer be accepted — that would agree a scrim that has already happened.
    • A merc offer can no longer be accepted once the session it was for has started, or once the availability window it answered has closed. Declining still works.
  3. Profiles worth looking at

    Added

    • Player profiles now carry stats: hours in TF2, scrims arranged through scrim.tf, and merc spots taken.
    • Badges. Some are earned — a first scrim, ten of them, a merc spot, a listing that became a match, five scrims in one mode — and some are given out by hand, like Beta Tester.
    • Recent scrims on a profile, with the modes that player actually turns up for.

    Changed

    • Scrims are counted as ARRANGED, not played: scrim.tf never learns whether a scrim actually happened, so it does not claim to.
    • Once a badge is earned it stays earned, even if the scrim behind it is later cancelled.
    • The Connected badge says a Discord account is linked. It does not show the handle to anyone.
  4. Getting around

    Changed

    • The navigation bar works on tablets. Between phone and desktop widths it used to disappear entirely, leaving no way to reach Listings, Mercs or Matches.
    • Matches is reachable on a phone, and Merc offers is in the account menu — an invite you were sent used to have no route except the notification that announced it.
    • Browse no longer tells you that no listings match filters you never set.
    • How it works has caught up with the site: the shared clock, server reservation and the merc board are all in it, and it no longer promises an RGL connection that does not exist.
    • Creating a listing says out loud that a mix name is not saved as a team, the way the merc form already did.

    Fixed

    • The merc board's day filter reads days on ETF2L time like everything else on the board. Filtering to Saturday could previously hide a post whose own card said Saturday.
    • The earliest date a listing can be scheduled for is today on the shared clock, not today in UTC — late in the evening those are different days.
    • Account settings and Report no longer lead to pages that only promise something later.
  5. Team pages

    Added

    • Every registered team has a page: who they are, the league and level, the roster, what they are currently looking for, and their recent scrims. Team names across the site link to it — from listings, matches, merc posts and player profiles.
    • Roster names link to scrim.tf profiles where the player has an account, and to Steam or the league where they do not.

    Changed

    • A temporary mix stays plain text, deliberately. It is one scrim's identity, not a team with a page.
    • Historical names stay historical: a scrim played under an old team name still shows that name, and only the link points at the team as it is now.

    Fixed

    • Team links across the site used to open the league's raw API response instead of the team's page.
  6. Servers, and a matches page that scales

    Added

    • Reserve a serveme.tf server from an agreed match. Either organiser books it; connection details go to everyone playing, and the server console password stays with the side whose listing opened the match.
    • Steam Datagram Relay details alongside the normal connect string, for anyone whose route to the server is better that way.
    • Matches is split into Upcoming and Past, with older scrims paged fifteen at a time.

    Changed

    • You need a serveme.tf account before reserving — signing in there once is enough, and scrim.tf will tell you if it is missing rather than booking a server you cannot open.
    • A scrim whose time has passed is filed as past, never as played: scrim.tf has no way of knowing whether it was actually played.
    • A server can still be booked for up to fifteen minutes after kick-off, which is exactly when somebody notices nobody booked one.
  7. Merc offers, and a board that knows its classes

    Added

    • Offer to merc. On a team's post, one button sends them your interest — they get a notification, and a Discord message if they've linked it. They accept or decline, and you're told either way.
    • Invite to merc. On a player's availability post, a team organiser can ask them directly. Same two answers, same notifications.
    • A Merc offers page collecting both directions — what's waiting for you, and what you've sent — with Accept, Decline and Withdraw.
    • A day filter on both boards. Pick a date to see the sessions on it and the players free during it, read in your own time zone.

    Changed

    • Class choices now follow the game mode. 6v6 and 4v4 offer Scout, Soldier, Demoman and Medic; Ultiduo offers Soldier and Medic; Bball offers Soldier; Highlander offers all nine. The filters follow the same rule.
    • Anything is now a choice on both kinds of post, for when you don't mind which class. Posts that say Anything still turn up when someone filters by a specific one.
    • Need a merc asks for the game mode first, then who's looking — and only shows teams that play the mode you picked, like creating a listing does.
    • An availability post is now for ONE game mode. Play two? Post twice, and each post can then say which classes you play in it.
    • Accepting an offer marks the post Filled rather than just closing it, so it's clear where it went. Your other availability windows are untouched.
    • Merc posts no longer ask for maps. Mention one in the note if it matters.
    • Merc contact details are shown to signed-in players and nobody else — there's no public option on the merc board, and no “until Match Found”, because merc posts don't have one.
  8. The merc noticeboard

    Added

    • A merc board at /mercs, with two sides: teams short a player, and players free to fill in. Post one, read the other, and get in touch — there is nothing to apply for and nothing to accept.
    • Need a merc: say which classes you're missing, when you're playing and roughly what level you're after. A registered team or a one-off mix can post, and one post can cover several class gaps.
    • Available to merc: say which modes and classes you play, the levels you're happy at, and the window you're around for. Your name links to your player profile, so a team can see who they'd be picking up.
    • Filters for class, region, game mode and level, all carried in the address bar, so a narrowed board can be shared or bookmarked.
    • Your posts, in one place, including the closed and expired ones — with Edit, Close and Reopen on each.

    Changed

    • Merc posts drop off the board on their own once the session has started or the window has closed. Nothing to remember and nothing to tidy up.
    • Contact details on the merc board work differently from listings, deliberately: any signed-in player can see the contact you picked, because that is how someone answers your post. Anyone not signed in sees only contacts you marked public.
    • One live post per team, per mode, per session — and one per person for a one-off mix. If you need two classes for the same scrim, they belong on the same post.
  9. Discord

    Added

    • You can link your Discord account to scrim.tf, under Settings → Connected accounts. Linking goes through Discord itself, so it proves the account is really yours.
    • Notifications can now reach you by Discord direct message — when a proposal arrives, and when yours is accepted or declined. The site still shows everything, so nothing depends on Discord working.
    • A linked account can be offered as your contact when you post a listing or send a proposal, instead of typing your handle again. It stays hidden until a match is agreed unless you choose otherwise, and you can leave it off any individual scrim.

    Changed

    • To receive Discord messages you need to be in the scrim.tf Discord and allow direct messages from server members. If we can't reach you, Connected accounts says so.
    • Linking your Discord shows it to nobody by itself. It is only shared where you pick it as a contact.

    Fixed

    • A match could show the same contact several times over. It is shown once now, and proposals no longer carry contact details copied from your older listings.
    • After a scrim was agreed, the opponent's contact details showed on the match but not on the listing page.
  10. The logo arrives

    Changed

    • scrim.tf has its own icon in the browser tab — the RED and BLU roundel — replacing the placeholder that came with the site skeleton. Browsers hold on to old icons stubbornly; a hard refresh clears it.
    • The SCRIM.TF wordmark now looks the same in the footer as it does in the header.
    • The numbers on the homepage steps were close to invisible in dark mode.
  11. Opening up to testers

    Added

    • A new homepage that walks through the whole thing end to end — sign in, team or mix, format, finding an opponent, proposing with a lineup, and the agreed match. Server integration is shown as upcoming, because it is.

    Changed

    • Text is bigger across the whole interface. The small labels in particular were decorative rather than legible.
    • A new interface typeface, replacing the one tried the day before.
    • The Team Fortress 2 playtime requirement is back to 250 hours. It was temporarily lowered to 200 during beta testing.
    • A mix built for one listing or one proposal no longer becomes a saved, reusable mix. It belongs to that scrim and nothing else, so the picker stops filling up with old ones.

    Fixed

    • Incoming proposals were invisible. A proposal would arrive and notify you, but the listing showed nothing to accept or decline — so there was no way to agree a scrim at all. This was the important one.
    • The unread notification count now updates while you are on the site, rather than only after moving between pages.
  12. Notifications and matches

    Added

    • Notifications for proposals — when one arrives, and when yours is accepted, declined, or closed because the other side matched somebody else. A bell in the navbar carries the unread count.
    • Matches: one place for the scrims you have agreed to play, with a RED vs BLU match page showing both lineups, the agreed time, maps and contact details.
    • A Discord link in the navbar.

    Changed

    • Proposing an opponent now comes from your team or a mix directly. It no longer creates a second listing of your own just to send a proposal.
    • You choose who is playing when you propose, and that lineup is attached to the proposal — so you can offer different lineups to different opponents, and the receiver sees exactly who they would be playing before accepting.
    • A team or mix can propose to the same listing at most twice, and only one proposal at a time.
    • New display typeface across headings and match pages.
    • Sign in with Steam is more prominent when signed out.
    • Accepting a proposal now takes you straight to the match, which announces itself as it arrives.

    Fixed

    • A listing that was already matched could be deleted, which broke the opponent's link to the match.
    • A matched listing still showed proposal messaging instead of the match.
    • The opponent name on a matched listing could lead to the wrong listing, or to a page that no longer existed.
    • The opponent skill range could be set backwards — “face from Low, up to Open” was accepted, which is not a range anyone can answer. “Up to” now only offers the level you chose and stronger.
  13. Propose an opponent

    Added

    • Propose an opponent on any active listing, and accept, decline or withdraw a proposal.
    • Your listings, so a listing that has left the public marketplace is still reachable.
    • Contact details are shared with the other side once a match is agreed, and with nobody else.

    Changed

    • Removed the self-declared skill level. A registered team's level now comes from its recent league history instead of what the listing claimed.
    • Merc status is decided when a lineup is captured and then frozen, so a player who later leaves a team does not retroactively become a ringer on a scrim they played.
    • Listing owner controls moved into a Manage menu, leaving one clear action on the page.
    • The Team Fortress 2 playtime requirement is temporarily 200 hours during beta testing.
  14. ETF2L teams and lineups

    Added

    • Real ETF2L integration: registered teams, divisions and synced rosters.
    • Choose who is playing when you create a listing, including mercs and ringers added by Steam profile or scrim.tf name.
    • scrim.tf moved to HTTPS.

    Changed

    • Creating a listing starts from the game mode, so the rest of the form only ever offers things that make sense for it.
  15. Listings

    Added

    • Public listing browsing, with filters for game mode, region, skill range and date.
    • Listing owner controls: edit, close, reopen and delete.

    Changed

    • Listings must be complete before they are published.
    • 24-hour time throughout, and an explicit Any map option.

    Fixed

    • Sessions were being destroyed by link prefetching, which signed people out as they browsed.
  16. Beta opens

    Added

    • Sign in with Steam, a one-time account eligibility check, and scrim.tf nicknames.
